SHADOW BRINGER

Something’s coming to get you . . .

Shadow Bringer

By David Calcutt

Nathan doesn’t understand. He doesn’t understand why his mother has gone away leaving him behind. He doesn’t understand why his dad has left, seemingly for good. And he doesn’t understand what is lurking at the bottom of the old lime pits, or what is hiding in the attic of his aunt and uncle’s house.

As Nathan struggles with his loneliness and his loathsome cousin, Kevin, a sinister creature starts to take shape in the darkness, calling to him, waiting for him. It is the shadow-bringer, a creature as old as time that can take any form – a twisting ribbon of smoke in the sky, a vicious rat, a beloved pet, or even a family member.

As Nathan’s fears intensify, the creature grows stronger. Until finally, Nathan is forced to face the terrible truth – that he himself has called the creature into being, and that it is feeding on his fear, his anger and his pain. But can he bring himself to confront the beast before someone gets seriously hurt?

About the story:

Shadow Bringer is a tense psychological thriller. With echoes of Stephen Kings’ “It”, it tells of a boy’s struggle to face the emotions he wishes he didn’t have – anger, fear, and the pain of loss – emotions made manifest in the terrifying, shifting form of the shadow bringer.
