Phase
II
The 2007 Lichfield Festival saw the successful performance of Stone
Voices Part 1, David’s long narrative poem about Lichfield Cathedral,
which he created in partnership with the city’s Company of Poets.
David has now received an
Arts Council grant to enable him to develop Phase II of the project,
,which is intended to lead to the writing of 5 linked narrative poems
which will be performed at the 2008 Festival, with music, dance, drama
and song.
With the cathedral and the
city of Lichfield still central to the work, the project will explore
the theme of Journeys.
Through an extensive programme
of research, conversations, dialogues and workshops carried out with
individuals and organisations across the city, David and members of
The Company of Poets aim to collect a huge resource of stories, anecdotes,
myths, legends and real-life experiences, which will be used as the
raw material for the creation of the 5 narrative poems.
Local Arts Groups will also
be invited to add to the visual impact of the project and the poems
to creature vivid visual arts works as a compliment to the written word.
David says of the project:
‘Stone Voices was a
successful project, which had a good turn out for its first performance,
but we would like Stone Voices II to be bigger. We would like it to
embrace other elements of the performing arts with opportunity for performers,
writers, musicians and artists to contribute to an important project
during next year’s Festival’.
Anyone who might wish to
contribute to, or be involved with the project, can contact David via
the Guestbook or his e-mail address given on the website.
